The Free Card in Poker

A free card is a common term in poker online for when you or your opposition are able to see a card without having to call a bet. First to act, you check, you have provided your opposition the luxury of checking behind and taking a free card. We typically give or take a free card either to save money when drawing, or to extract additional money from our opposing players.

How to Get a Free Card

When flopping a nut flush draw heads up and acting first in an online poker tournament, you check. Action moves to our opposition. Ideally, we are hoping for them to check behind, which is giving us a free card. However, our check may be interpreted by the later acting player as weakness. As a result, they will sometimes bet into us. Should they check; we get a free Everest Poker turn card. In the event they bet, however, we will likely raise. The raise generally buys us both a turn and river card. The check-raise shows strength in the hand, and can additionally give us the chance to see the river free. The aggressor is likely to take a step back due to the check-raise and will proceed with caution going forward. In either instance, we obtain the opportunity to see more cards for less money and as a result, we are able to draw in a less expensive manner.

How to Give a Free Card

We give a free card when we have flopped the nuts and need for our opposition to improve slightly in order to pay us off or we need them to feel as if we do not have much of a hand. We realize that if we bet out, our opponent will not likely call our bet at this stage of the hand. To give a free card, we simply check behind, and hope that either our opposition takes a stab at the pot, or improves to such a manner in which he or she can pay our better hand off. Additionally, by checking we are trying not to tip off our hand strength. We know we are not vulnerable, and do not fear someone playing catch-up against us.

When the next card comes out on ultimate bet cheat, and our opposition fails to bet, at this time we should put out a bet.
